The closing date for this consultation is:

Whangarei District Council has not adopted a formal Consultation Policy.

Public Consultations are conducted in accordance with the requirements and principles laid out in the Local Government Act 2002.

The Local Government Act 2002 places a strong emphasis on being aware of and considering community views and preferences in its decision-making processes.

Council provides a number of opportunities for the public to participate in its decision-making processes.

One of the most important is through the Long Term Plan consultation process – when Council may seek feedback from the public on Council priorities, services, income and expenditure and funding tools.

Other formal consultations include:

  • District Plan Changes,
  • bylaw reviews and
  • reserve management plan reviews.

Council also conducts consultations outside of these processes.

The significance of a matter will also guide Council’s decisions concerning the extent and nature of consultation to be undertaken with persons likely to affected by, or interested in, the decision or matter.

The more significant a matter from the perspective of persons who may be affected, the more likely Council will need to consult with them on their views.
