On this page is an introduction to, and a map of, the walking tracks in the district which we provide and maintain.

Numerous walks along well maintained paths and tracks with a wide variety of environments and scenery are one of the attractions of our district. They are a great way to explore the area's unique and natural beauty.
We work with other organisations, such as the Department of Conservation (DoC), to provide and look after the tracks to suit the capabilities of people of all ages and various fitness levels.
1 - A well made path with easy access for most people including families.
2 - A short walk generally on well made paths but may include steeper sections.
3 - A longer walking track usually well made including steps and more suitable for people with reasonable fitness.
In most cases there are car parks and signage indicating the routes at the beginning of the tracks and toilet facilities are available at many of them.
Printable maps of individual tracks are included on each of the information pages on this website.
