Whangarei boasts a range of sporting facilities. This page contains information about sporting activities in the district and a map of sportsground locations.

Rugby at Kensington Park

 Whangarei district caters for all the traditional sporting codes, such as rugby, soccer, cricket, hockey and netball.

Our BMX track and cricket ground are of international standard, and facilities at Kensington Park host hockey matches at regional level.  

Council is a key partner of Sport Northland which provides a variety of activities at Kensington Stadium, the McKay Stadium and Whangarei's Aquatic Centre.

Smoke free policy

We promote all our playgrounds, sportsfields and neighbourhood parks to be smoke free areas in the interests of protecting the environment and everyone’s health.

Booking a sportsground

The district's sportsgrounds can be booked for special events, tournaments, games and casual use.
